You
will be in 4-wheel drive Land-Rover's or
Toyota Land-Cruiser's. These vehicles have
been custom designed to my specifications.
Each vehicle has large roof hatches for
the best visibility and photographic opportunities.
The vehicles are also equipped with first
aid kits, radios, hand held spotlights,
two spare wheels and tool kits to cope with
any situation.
These
vehicles are designed to carry up to 5 passengers
in comfort. Each person is guaranteed a window
seat and access to a roof hatch.
Who
will be driving us?
I
will personally be driving the vehicle. When
there are more that 5 passengers the second
vehicle will be driven by another experienced
professional guide.
This
is camping in style! My camps are designed
to give you the full flavour of traditional
Africa without losing any comfort. The tents
are set up by an experienced crew of staff
in a remote site prior to our arrival. The
tents are large canvas affairs, well ventilated
by large insect proof windows. This is undoubtedly
the best way to experience Africa - from
the luxury of your own private camp.
What
sort of beds do
we sleep
on?
There
are metal
framed beds
with thick,
comfortable
foam mattresses
and luxurious
bedding. The
sleeping tents
are also furnished
with chairs,
tables, canvas
wardrobes,
washstands
and additional
items such
as mirrors,
flashlights
and towels.
What
sort of facilities
are there?
The
tents are en-suite. Attached at the rear of
each tent is a washroom section with toilet
and safari shower. Hot showers are available
at any time of the day.
The
food is prepared by an excellent chef of
many years experience. The produce is all
fresh, bread is even baked every day, and
there are a variety of dishes served from
fresh salads and fruit to gourmet meals
of home made lasagna and roast lamb.
What
is there
to drink?
There
is unlimited supply of bottled drinking
water as well as a variety of sodas, juices
and beer. A bar service with the common
liquors is also provided. If you have a
favourite, then bring it with you from duty
free as it may not be available locally.
There is refrigeration in camp and plenty
of ice for the drinks.
Who
are the
staff?
The
staff are an integral part of any successful
safari. Many of them worked for my father,
and as they have retired with my father,
so their sons and nephews have taken their
places. There are strong bonds of mutual
respect between our families. You will find
them the most willing and cheerful group
of men you could ever hope to meet.
Any
hotels or lodges used while you are enroute
during the safari are selected for the best
combination of service, quality and ambiance.
The choices range from plush resort style
hotels to eco-friendly affairs tucked away
in secluded places. Alternatively we might
chose to stay at a private homestead with
the hosts on their private ranch who will
give you an insight into the lifestyles
of other people living in Kenya.
What
do we need to bring?
Most
essential is a decent pair of binoculars each.
This will improve your enjoyment of the wildlife
immeasurably. As far as clothing goes, you need
to bring a selection of mostly lightweight stuff
with one or two warmer items. Laundry is done
every day while in camp so there is no need
to bring too much. Everything you need should
pack into one duffel bag.
