2003
was an important year in the Cheffings Family as it
realized the addition of a new member, the only new
addition for 38 years! Our little girl, Zoe was born
on the 10th March. Apart from the odd sleepless night,
Zoe has been a delight to be around these past 10 months.
In October Fiona started her own partnership business,
Fastrack, involved in real estate and corporate expatriate
relocation in the Nairobi area. The business is already
doing very well so I expect to be able to retire in
a couple of years! Safaris
have continued to keep me busy in the face of world
wide terror alerts and perceived insecurities in Kenya.
Visitors included the Sosna family from St Louis who
spent 2 weeks in the country on a memorable safari.
There was a gathering of artists from all parts of
the USA who were given tips in painting and sketching
techniques by Kenyan born international artist Simon
Combes while on a 14 day safari. The Hanson's returned
once again from UK, and even after many previous visits
decided that this was their most memorable safari
to date. There were the Weatherley-Whites from Denver
and Boise, there were the Brinkers from LA and there
were the Proctor/Laetham/Stewart families from Michigan.
These were all highly memorable safaris with enough
events and memorable moments to fill a book.
For the bulk of this year's newsletter, I have selected
one morning's game drive in the Mara to write about.
There was nothing extraordinary about this drive,
except that it was a delightful morning that I wrote
about in camp, directly after returning from it...
