About OnSafari and Anthony Cheffings

In the same spirit as the early pioneers, Anthony's father Joe Cheffings arrived in Kenya as a 17 year old, looking for a new land with fresh promise. After 11 years of farming coffee, his heart led him to become more involved with wildlife and tourism. For the next 12 years he hunted professionally in Kenya, escorting individuals through the African wilderness in the pursuit of adventure and big game trophies. Big Game hunting was the closed in Kenya in 1976 when photographic safaris took over.

Anthony's earliest memories spring from this time. The long drives to remote destinations feature strongly, where you would be met by the smiling faces of the camp crew and the cool shade of canvas tents. It was during this time that he learned to love the land and really become aware of the rich diversity of wildlife in East Africa. Familiar and comforting sounds were as diverse as the early morning cooing of the ring-necked dove to the night time grunting roars of a pride of lions. Anthony only fully appreciated this after completing my education abroad at University in Canada. After this he returned home to Kenya, the land that he loved, and joined his family in the safari world. Since then he has immersed himself in the outdoor life of a professional safari guide.

Anthony is qualified at the very highest level available in Kenya. As a ‘Gold’ level member of the Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association (KPSGA), he is one of a very select group of guides in Kenya. Anthony now sits on the examination board of the KPSGA which is devoted to raising the standards of all guides in Kenya.
