The lakes of the rift valley offer opportunities for excursions by boat. There is fabulous birdlife to appreciate including incredible concentrations of flamingoes and pelicans. There are also hippos and crocodiles, and also simply fabulous scenery. A full appreciation of the extraordinary variety of birdlife in this region is often best done from a boat. Kenya’s mountain streams and lakes, and larger rivers offer opportunities for fishing for the likes of trout, bass, and catfish. You might try your hand at this one afternoon or morning, or you might schedule a longer period to properly approach this activity.
Then there is also the Indian Ocean and the fabulous East African coastline. A morning sail or sunset sail in a traditional Swahili dhow is an activity not to be missed on a visit to this coastline. The rich waters of the Indian Ocean also have world renowned big game fishing for the likes of tuna, sailfish and marlin.
